I had the kit, looked at it and decided that it was going to take far too much work to make it look good, especially considering that is was essentially a "never" was ship. Yes, the basic ship was afloat and taken over by the Russians but it was never functional in its intended role.

As far as the kit itself, it was a bit of an anomoly in that it had some well detailed areas and other areas were flat, without detail. This is understandable as there wasn't much to work with as the ship was never completed. I always build waterline ship models and a good look at it showed that it was going to be more difficult to do correctly than I was willing to put the effort into. The aircraft in the kit were cheesy and the equipment that would have been used to launch, recover and service them wasn't good either, again, they didn't have much to work with. After all the evaluation it was off to eBay for the kit. WS

FWIW, the aircraft and the oversized rigging contribute to the toy like appearance to me.  To me, the aircraft look more like caricatures of the BF-109Ts and Ju-87s it would have been equipped with.  Plus the a/c are painted in the same grey as the ship (I would have gotten AM a/c and painted them 74/75/76)

Other than than, the kit looks as good as a lot of other kits of that scale (not great, but good)
