arleigh burke class destroyer paint specs needed
Posted by aaronalpert on Monday, July 23, 2007 2:24 PM

I am building from scratch a 1/8" scale model of an Arleigh Burke class destroyer from purchased plans. Hull is plank (balsa)  on frame (basswood)  coated in several coats of epoxy resin. Decks & Superstructure are balsa skinned in styrene. fittings in brass or styrene. or whatever else works. Props are bought

Things are far enough along to start painting. I need to know paint specs for accurate representation of hull, bottom, decks & superstructure and suggestions as to Brand of paint and colors would be appreciated . I don't use a spray gun  - I use spray cans.

Since you are looking for rattle cans only ...

The specification for US Navy modern haze gray is 26270.   Testors Model Master Neutral Gray is 36270 (flat versus satin).

Deck gray is closely approximated by Testors Gunship Gray

Model Master Aircraft Interior Black gets you the black boot topping (flat black is too harsh)

Red Primer by American Tradition from Lowes is a very good for hull red.

If you did an airbrush I would recommend Colourcoats by White Ensign Models, but alas...

Tamiya do haze grey in a rattle can. TS-32 is the one you would need.
