USS TEXAS 1893

If you have done this 1:350 resin model by Commander do you have sequence photos of the superstructure construction?  It is my first resin attempt (daughter bought it as a gift) and I am basically a novice.  Retired old coot doing paste & paint modeling because I enjoy it.  But the steps to the superstructure baffle me to a certain extent and there are no decent photos of the ship or the model.  I will be glad to pay a reasonable price for the pics if you have a set.  Thanks.  Historical note:  the Texas was actually BB1.  The Maine was laid down and launched first but the Texas was commissioned first by several days.  Of course they were designated Second Class Battleships and had come and gone by the time numbering started.

Mack,  I'm not sure what kind of information resources you have, and I can't help with the kit itself as I just have no clue - but I did find a couple of links online with photos and other images that hopefully will be of some help;

http://www.spanamwar.com/texas.htm

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-t/texas.htm

This last one has broken links for a bunch of photos of the Texas, but hopefully you can contact the webmaster for assistance (and hopefully the missing images).  At least it still has some technical data on the ship.

These might be the missing photos from the link above, but I can't be sure:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/lc_texas.html

It also has links to a couple more pages that advertise photos of the Texas as well.

Good luck with your project!

Hi

Texas was classed B-1, but the {so called} battleship Maine{of Havana fame} was officially classed as ACR-1, Armoured Cruiser Recon. . After the Maine blew-up{mostlikly cause was an internal cordite explosion}, the ship was finally raise and removed from Havana as a hazerd to navigation}. Both fore and mainmast were removed, one kept in Havana, and the other at the Naval Academy. She was then jokeinly refered to as the worlds longest battleship, foremast to mainmast! The hulk was towed to sea, and sunk in deep water.

I could swear that one of the Maine's masts was used as the center of a memorial in Arlington National Cemetery -it's been years since I've been there, but I remember seeing it, with the crow's nest, and it looked pretty cool.  Amybody know for sure?  I saw it way back in 1979.

I believe there is also a memorial on the sea front in Havana. I visited ten years ago and remember some scrap plating and chain - unfortunately I can't find the photo I took at the time.
