1/350 HMS Warspite?
Posted by Semmern on Sunday, August 12, 2007 7:03 PM
Been reading up a bit on the history of the Royal Navy in WWII, specifically a lot about Admiral Cunningham. What a commander he was! I read a lot about the HMS Warspite too, and what a magnificient ship that was. All that reading got me interested in building a model of it. Can anyone point me to a decent 1/350 scale kit of it?

Am 99.9% sure that there isn't one available. The only kits that I know of are the old Airfix one in 1/600th scale & a White Ensign Models resin 1/700th waterline. A 1/350th Warspite regularly appears in the most wanted polls so hopefully, Trumpeter or someone will pick up on it one day.

A good book on the Warspite is VE Tarrants Battleship Warspite.

A decent kit is so long overdue it's a disgrace!  When you consider how little the Bismarck achieved for the fame it's recieved and the huge number of kits produced, yet the long life and sterling service of the 'Old Lady' Warspite in two world wars and between is largely ignored.

Extraordinary.

Right now the closest you can get to a Warspite in 1/350 is the resin Iron Shipwright Queen Elizabeth, kit #4-055 in WW2 fit. I am unaware of a 350 Warspite done by anyone at this time. In 700 there is the resin White Ensign kit, Skytrex metal kit, H-P Models resin kit and the old B-Resina reisn kit. You can still pick up the Airfix 600 scale kit. WS

Bless Warspite. My favorite writing about her was Churchill's memorable image of her helping to slaughter the German destroyers at the fjord at Narvik, where her 15" guns 'spoke like the voice of doom'.

Yep, it's a real shame there hasn't been a 350 kit of the Royal Navy's premier battleship, indeed one of the most outstanding RN ships ever, yet. But anyway, thanks for clearing things up for me guys!
