1/400 crew

I'm nearing completion of the Revell Pine Island. It needs lots and lots and lots and lots of little sailors. It just doesn't seem like a ship that could ever be buttoned down for the night, with aircraft operations etc going on.

I've spent fortunes in my railroad hobby on little folks, and don't want to go there, and I also cannot find sailors at the scale I need. Considering its a pretty basic model anyways, even with the upgrades I've added, is there a little peg people solution that looks ok. I figure they dont need arms as they all will be standing around with their chins buried in their pea coats and their hands in their pockets. What about PE?

Any advise is most welcome.

Toms Modelworks offers PE crew figures.   Add some thick paint or glue to bulk them up the 2D appearance some.  When removing them from the fret leave a longer nub on the bottom of a foot.  Drill a hole on the deck where desired.  Touch the nub in some CA and place it in the hole.

In that scale, to my knowledge, the Toms Modelworks PE set is about your only choice, but for about $6 you get 120 or so figures in various poses. I would think one fret would be enough, if you use most or all of them ... although I can't imagine painting that many of the little guys.

Thanks alot for the tip! I meant no disrespect to the crew, it's just that I'm putting the ship in a simple diorama where she's launching a Mariner off Antarctica, and the photo I found in a recent Air + Space shows everyone on deck pretty bundled up, so the paint job will be lots of blobs of dark blue.

Tom's are the only choice.  I've been looking myself.  I'm working on a 1/400 Hiddensee and there are more people on the fret then the ship's crew!  There isn't a lot of variety in 1/400. I haven't been able to find anything for Warsaw Pact Ships in the scale.
