Does anyone know of any good photos of the Saucy or Arabis?
I have only found two good photos of the Saucy on Royal Navy Forums. One is a very good profile. It is fun to speculate as to when it was taken. The Arabis was handed over to the US and commissioned on April 30, 1942. It sailed on 16 May 1942 as an escort for a Halifax bound convoy. I am guessing that the photo was taken in this time period.
The flag and pennant number on the bow shows that it is in commission, which makes the date on or after April 30, 1942. It has a fresh paint job showing virtually no rust. There are a bunch of people that just seem to be milling around. There is what appears to be a civilian in what may be a light colored coat and felt fedora on the foredeck. Perhaps this was a cruise with shipyard personnell on that may be acceptance after being in th yard.
Oh well, just speculation. But I would be greatful for any other photos on the Saucy.
Thanks,
