Details for Lindberg 1/32 PT Boat?
Posted by gawrycht on Thursday, August 30, 2007 1:00 PM

I have recently unearthed my (very) old 1/32 Lindberg kit of the PT Boat and am planning on building as accurate a replica as possible.  Does anyone out here know if there are any detail sets available for this kit?  The armament is what I am interested in mostly (although anything would be great!) as the guns and gun tubs are very lacking in detail.

I know at  one time there was an individual making stand-alone kits of the gun tubs and guns in 1/35 and 1/72 scale but that was about 15-20 years ago that I saw that ad and haven't been able to locate the person since.  Does anyone have a source for details?  It would be greatly appreciated!

Academy makes a US Machine Gun set in 1/35th that have some gorgeous .50's you could use to replace the kit .50's. I used the .30's from the set to replace the .30's on a Lindberg LCVP. Not sure about sources for any of the other weapons.

Sure, buy the Italieri 1:35 scale PT boat and use those weapons.  Throw the rest away.

A rim shot!  Exactly what I need today.

Caution on those HR Products items.    HR has developed a reputation for taking extremely long to fill orders.  I've heard that he is a school teacher and works only on school holidays.   If you need it now,  its too late.   If you need it by Christmas, you're probably right on schedule

Sounds like he works at the same rate as my non vacation builds!

While surfing the internet on the subject of PT boats some time ago, I found a British company called Nautical Marine Models that made both correct resin and white metal parts for an 80' Elco PT in 1/32nd scale, which clearly looked like accurate replacements and additions for the Lindberg kit.  The large resin parts included a charthouse/cockpit/starboard turret unit, a dayroom canopy/port turret unit, an engine room cover/hatch/20mm ammo lockers unit, as well as depth charges/cradles, torpedo tubes, etc.  The white metal parts were of deck vents, fuel filler caps sidelights, and other parts.

The prices were listed in British pounds, of course.  Doing some rough calculations to U.S. dollars, the parts were pretty expensive.

The URL for the site was:

Italeri put their georgeous 35th scale bofors in a designated kit. It's a wheeled mount but some kitbashing shouldn't be too difficult and if you've seen that Bofors in person you know it's woth it.

You might check the back issues of FSM.  Back in the late 80s or early 90s they had an article on accurizing the Lindberg Pt - complete w/drawings and patterns (sorry I can't seem to remember the exact date).  If I get a chance (I'm scheduled to finish the Annual inspections on an Ercoupe and a Super Cub this week end), I'll try to get out to storage and see if I can find my copy of that particular mag.
