You are in luck. Youre here at a good time
This weekend Squadron/Verlinden is holding their Mastercon convention at the Omni in Dallas. Check the Squadron website -- it hasn't been publicized well. One of the side events will be an Open House at the Squadron facility in Carrollton. That means you get to go in and wander the stacks and shop. They ususally have a scratch & dent table where there are good deals. You do get the SMO monthly sales flyer prices on those items. {Gotta go get a Mirage HMS Montgomery & HNoMS St Albans to make a HMS Mansfield} There may be some new items which have not hit the store shelves yet. Otherwise it is retail, plus state sales tax. You do save on the shipping. They take plastic.
EDIT: Be sure to check it out. Went this afternoon. No scratch & dent table, but when you went to check out they asked if you want the salec circular price or 30% off. Well I only had one or two sales items and my Mama didn't raise no fool.
Google Maps -- Crowley Rd is off the George Bush tollway, only about an exit east of I35E, north of Dallas.
Next weekend 9/8 will be the IPMS FtWorth show at Duncan Community Center - Vandegrift Park in Arlington (north of Arlington Highlands/Parks Mall on Matlock)
The best shop in the area is likely the HobbyTown in Plano (Park & Independence). The assistant mgr is an IPMS North Central Texas member and keeps up on the modelers needs.
I personally think the HT on Cooper you mention is the second best shop in the area (that isn't saying a lot). There is a HT on South Hulen in FtWorth that is very poor (selection wise)
Also in North Dallas is Hobby Annex, Preston Rd at Campbell, north of LBJ Freeway. It is mostly armor & aircraft & figures.
