Revel Gato USA / Germany ? What's the difference?
Posted by weebles on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:23 PM

Greetings,

I received my Squadron catalog today and I'm confused.  Or maybe it's them.  They list the 1/72 Gato on sale for $59.89.  They list the same model from Revell Germany for $109.96.  They call it new but looking at the Revell Germany web site it's the same boat.  Is anyone familiar with any differences in the two kits????

Same kit, different box.

Instructions in the RoG version are probably their multi-language versions.  The Revell USA instructions are all English with French warnings

The molds were designed by Revell USA using the Silversides at Manitowoc Wisconsin as the subject.   Manitowoc is just up the road from Northbrook Illinois, Revell USA's home.   Revell USA & RoG did cooperate in the molding & production

SMO probably has to cover import duties for the kits coming in from Europe.

Then again, it may be a case of 'it costs more so it must be better, right?'

I'm not sure what they're thinking but I guess that's why I'm not in marketing.  Wink [;)]

You might also consider the rapid nose-dive of the dollar in the past 6-8 months.... The RoG models were molded and packaged at a fixed cost in Euros some time ago, which now bites you in the butt when it comes time to buy in dollars six months later!

Price.

Same kit,same quality,different box.

For my money,I'd go the cheaper route and use the extra cash

for some after-market detailing sets.

And Also, I think the RG kit has markings for more ships from looking at the description in the newest squadron catalog.
