I haven't had personal experience with either of those two.  I do know that the set from Gold Medal Models is superb.  It contains just about every part anybody could ask for, the detail is so fine that some of it's almost invisible, and the instructions are excellent.  I'm also impressed with the fact that GMM has updated it to ensure that all the parts fit the "new" Tamiya Yamato and Musashi kits.  That's important - especially concerning such things as the rails on the roofs of the secondary turrets.

Maybe the Eduard and Tom's sets are good too, but it's hard for me to believe that either of them could be superior to the GMM one.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

1/700 Tamiya Yamato - Photoetch?
Posted by John_in_Kzoo on Friday, December 14, 2007 7:25 AM

I'm going to be building Tamiya's 1/700 Yamato kit, and I'm wondering about photoetch?  I'm sort of torn between the Eduard set and the Tom's Modelworks set.  Dopes anyone know anything about either of these two sets that would help me decide?

Thanks,

John
