1 /144 CV5 Yorktown!
Posted by writer6193 on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 11:20 AM

I plan to scratch build a 1/144 scale CV5 Yorktown as she appeared during the Midway battle. I have a set of plans but I need a little help. There don't seem to be many 1/144 fittings, antiaircraft guns, and very few aircraft. I have found Wildcats and Duntlesses, but have yet to find any Devastators. I have looked at the White Ensign gun offerings, but after seeing their quality, I am planning building my own unless someone knows of better. I have seen a website where a man built a 1/144 CV10, but don't know how to contact him. If anyone can help, I would love to hear from you. Thanks, John.

I think I would consider putting the construction on hold until late this year to early next.  By all means - continue to gather data and formulate an approach.

Revell/Germany is coming out with a new 1:144 scale Fletcher-class destroyer later this year.   Consider using the kit as a source of detail parts,  take off copies and make your own.  Several of the aftermarket companies have already indicated that they will be preparing upgrade/conversion sets for the Fletcher.  Thus widening your options.

As far as a Devastator -- I would imagine that if making a 1:144 scale aircraft carrier is within your skill set,  making a master mold of the plane and making resin copies of it should not be beyond you capabilities.
