Battle of the Denmark Strait

As to kits: The Bismarck is produced by Tamiya (and knocked off by other companies) but it is really old tooling. Revell has released a newly tooled Bismarck which should reach the USA soon. It has received very good reviews thus far. As to Hood, Trumpeter make a truly excellent kit of this ship in plastic and a number of after market detail kits are available that will make this into a fantastic representation of the ship. There are NO 1/350 Prinz Eugen models available in plastic at this time. I'm not sure that you can even get a resin one any more. ISW (Commanders Iron ShipWright) did make one but it is discontinued, some may still be available on their web site. WS

I have tried to contact ISW both by email and a voicemail, but no response.  They currently list 1 Prinz Eugen available.  Have you ordered from them in the past, and how difficult can they be to get in touch with?  Do you know of any shops on the Web that carry ISW products?

Finally, have you read or heard anything on when the Revell Bismarck will reach N. America?

I have always used the phone number listed on the website and got quick responses. Revell's Bismarck is supposed to be in the USA in February. WS

The problem of the Prinz Eugen has been a plague on modelers for quite some time.... There is an old 1/720 kit that has been around since God was a private, and Heller USED to produce one in 1/400 scale, but that is out of production (in fact, Heller is out of business!).  We can only hope that some company like Trumpeter or Revell of Germany might produce a comprehensive Prinz Eugen in 1/350 scale, especially as how Revell of Germany has just come out with a 1/350 Bismarck that has been receiving good reviews..... Personally, I think Prinz Eugen was just about the finest and most efficient surface warship the Germans produced in WW2!  Too bad (or perhaps more correctly, 'it's a good thing...') the Kriegsmarine had so few senior officers with the kind of skills and bravery to successfully fight the few ships they had.... 

In listing Prinz Eugen kits, don't forget the fairly recent - and excellent - one by Tamiya in 1/700 scale.  That, for better or worse, is the only scale in which all the participants in that action are available in plastic kit form.
