Photo-eched railings

I have the White Ensign Models set for the Tamiya Indianapolis and it doesn't have any curved sections for the bow.

Many dedicated ship-type PE sets include bow railings with an upward sweep.  

If yours does not, cut a piece of PE of the appropriate length and hold it flat on a table top.  Start at what will be the bow end.  Put your two forefingers together and hold down the PE.  With the foreward finger push away slightly to raise the  railing.  Work down the length of railing toward the aft.   Repeat as necessary to get sufficient sweep.  Stop occasionally to  check your progress for fit.

If you're using generic etched railings, you may have some problems, but to a certain extent, these can be overcome by using several short lengths of railing. If, however, you are building the Tamiya 1/700 Indianapolis, then Gold Medal Models do a generic USN WW2 cruiser and destroyer etched set:
