HMS Repulse/Catapult
Posted by u-69 on Sunday, March 23, 2008 1:24 PM

I have a Tamiya 1/48 scale Swordfish MkI Float version....  I thoughtit would be fun to put it in a diorama consisting of a section of deck & aircraft catapult on board a battleship.

Some googling & wikipedia searchs show that the Repulse at one point had a compliment of swordfish & a double ended catapult.  However I was unable to come up with any detailed [enough] photos or references sufficient to scratch build said reference... so;

Does anyone know of:
-a reference book/source that containes enough detail about said catapult?
- a model of the repulse [or any ship that may have carried swordfish] with sufficient detail in the catapult/hanger section to "upscale"
- specific references/technical drawings/photos etc. of the catapult itself.

thanks in advance

Hi; Thanks....

ps1scw: been noodling on and off what I wanted to do with that model for some time, I really didn't want to submerge it in a puddle of fake water - since it's such a nice kit. Got the idea from a photo in one of those squadron walk around books, thee was a swordfish mounted on a land based catapult for training, but the details of the catapult are difficult to make out.
I also just came across this... http://hsfeatures.com/features04/seagullbc_1.htm

ddp59; thanks for the link, the drawing gives a good idea of the general layout, if not the particular details, also the article indicates the relatively low availability of reference photos for the renown... like I said, the ship is less important than the availability of reference to the catapult itself.
