other than price and scale, what are the differances between the Nichimo 1/200 and the Doyusha 1/250 scale Yamato?

jallred,

I have no experience with the Doyusha model - I haven't heard good things about it tho.  Comments regarding accuracy, and poor quality come to mind.  I have built the Nichimo Yamato however and can speak about that.  From what I understand there are problems with this kit too.  The tripod mast is backwards, the turrets are too narrow and the stern should have a flat on the end.  There are also problems with the pagota.  Some of these I adressed and some I just left alone.  You can see pics of my version on my website - click on the www icon at the bottom of this message or go to:

I have a write up on how I built it as well as a lot of pics.

 Good luck,

Paul

Something else you might think about; Nichimo also makes several other ships in the same 1/200 scale, including several IJN destroyers at quite resonable prices (I bought the 1/200 destroyer 'Hatsuzuki' for about $50, and there is an 'Akitsuki' and a 'Kagero' available too), so you could have a proper 'escort' for that big RC Yamato on the pond, or just to get an appreciation for the size of the thing!
