It has arrived
Posted by nsclcctl on Friday, October 31, 2003 8:26 AM
I hinted and hinted and it arrived yesterday. However, I have to wait a week to open it. I asked my wife nonchalantly to get me the Trumpeter Hornet for my birthday. It was on the front porch, all wrapped up from an ebay sale. Now, this will be my first ship. I build WWII aircraft.

Anybody link me to good reviews and how to articles on this build? I would appreciate it. How hard are the small aircraft to detail? My guess is, they take a long time. Any links or info would be appreciated. I am really looking forward to this winter project.

There's a couple of articles on the ship at Modelwarships.com, including :

Warship Pictorial #9 Yorktown Class Carriers (a photo album) by Classic Warships

Hornet is a pretty straight build, there's not much to throw you off until you start adding PE sets and hangar deck girders and cockpit sets for the aircraft.

You can get pretty nutty with this one...if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'll be starting mine as she appeared at Santa Cruz as my winter project as well.

I would strongly recommend picking up the Classic Warships' Pictorial on the Yorktown Class. Lots of photos and very affordable. Available through most hobby shops, or just about any of hte vendors on our site.

Hey jeff, did you ever go the USS intrepid in NYC??? That place is great.... a good idea would be to build a diorama of the whole museum, including the sub and the other ship.... it would be neat to build the intrepid as it is now, don't you think???

I'll second Jeff's suggestion of the Classic Warships book "Yorktown Class Carriers".
It's worth every cent; there are some excellent photos and it's a great reference. Also
all the articles on Modelwarships.com are good references. You'll have fun on this project. Be advised you'll need to buy additonal aircraft.
