Hi Grem,

Yes, I read the rigging thread, I'm going to use tarred rigging, becasue most navies/ocean going vessels at that time used it, besides it will contrast the running rigging, If I can figure a way to make a darker brown vs. true black I may go with that.

Careful with the tarred rigging, as the Chebec didn't really have 'standing rigging' per se.  Try using different color browns (darker for the heavier lines, lighter for the smaller stuff), and save the blacking for the chafers, looped ends over masts, yokes, that sort of thing......

Thank you Jake, I must admit I am not sure if the pump handles are 100% correct but judging by the barrels I think it's pretty safe to assume they looked something like this. I took the following photo on the replica of the "Batavia" in Lelystad in Holland:

I have been following your build as well and I was very impressed with your Chebeck. Did you catch the thread about tarred- or untarred rigging and have you decided yet what you are going to do?

Cheers,

Julian

Hi Grem,

That Looks really, really great! I'm going to try and copy your pump handle idea.  I was not sure how to make one based on the period peices.

Thanks for the positive comments. The gold is Humbrol enamel, pull the thick stuff from the bottom of the jar and mix it with it's own thinner on the lid. Covers in one coat.

cheers,

Julian

Julian

Your build is  coming along very nicely. What type of gold paint are you using for the trim? It really covers well.Keep up the great work, keep us posted.

Work is proceding slowly but steadily. Here some photo's to get an impression.

Adding ringbolts to the cannon

Lots of "gingerbread", will need a bit of cleaning up.

The pumps consisted of the barrels only so I scratch built the pump handle and plunger

The galley (I presume)

Thanks for taking a quick peek.Smile [:)]

cheers, Julian
