I have been a fan of 'America' for many years, and have three or four of the old Revell 'America's' in various stages of construction and different colors (one of the best Revell ever came out with!).  As for wooden versions, I have a RC version thati s about 4' long that is quite good, but I am unfamiliar with the Mamoli version.....

VALENCIA, Spain: In 1851, Britain's Queen Victoria watched the schooner America trounce all 14 entries from her Royal Yacht Squadron to win the 100 Guinea Cup ocean sailing race.

The queen, the story goes, asked an aide which yacht finished in second place.

"Your majesty, there is no second," replied the aide, unwittingly creating the slogan for the America's Cup, named for its first winner, the New York Yacht Club's radical 100-foot (30-meter) schooner.

nice choice, I look forward to your progress, I will be getting something in a wooden kit soon myself, since almost all the plastic are wwII warships or newer

She is definitely a pretty schooner. I haven't had any experience with this particular kit, I believe it is a plank-on-bulkhead construction, and you may find the instructions not........ completely adequate, where planking the hull is concerned. However the case may be, read and understand the assembly procedure before starting. I would suspect that it isn't exactly how a real hull is planked.

Lead me not into temptation ..................I can find it myself

I broke down and bought this kit. It builds out to a 1/66th. scale.  Anybody build this kit yet? Any Pit falls to look out for? I always did like her lines, looks fast just sitting still in the case.
