                        I was recently forwarded this message from the secretary of the ship modeling club I belong to:

                        "I do hope that you will not mind my contacting you, but I happened across a forum (FineScale.com) whom were discussing one of Donald Mc Narry's models, The USS Kearsage and someone called Steve Sobieralski from Tampa Bay Shipmodel had posted on there.

                        I am a close friend of Mr McNarry and he was delighted that people still mention his work. He has a web site, Donald McNarry Ship Models

                        Albeit one is unable to contact him there as there is no Email address.
                         
                        However I wondered if Mr Sobieralski would be kind enough to send the above website details to the forum board and also to convey that Donald McNarry is quite well and active, albeit he no longer makes shipmodels.

                        I believe the website has been discussed here before, but it is worth reposting the information for newcomers or those who may have missed it. It is also good to know that Mr McNarry is doing well.

                        Good news indeed.

                        The North Carolina Maritime Museum at Beaufort, where our model club meets, fairly recently acquired a McNarry model of a Confederate blockade runner.  Whenever I'm walking through the museum with anybody I point at it and say:  "There's the best model in the museum."  The typical visitor finds that hard to believe - until he/she takes a close look at the model.

                        Mr. McNarry is indeed one of the wonders of the modeling world.

                        Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

                        Mr. McNarry has long been an inspiration since I stumbled across his book, "Ship Models in Miniature" many years ago.

                        I was very fortunate, when Dr. Tilley was at the Mariner's Museum, to see several of Mr. McNarry's models up very close before they were placed on display. John had obtained them on loan for a short running exhibit on ship models, I believe, and had them in a work room with the cases open, if my memory is right. It was a wonderful experience to see them.

                        I know of Mr. McNarry's website.

                        If any message is passed to Mr. McNarry, please let him know that his models a still an inspiration to lots of folks.

                        Donald Mc Narry is one of the guys whose work I take a break to study when I think I'm getting pretty darn good at the model building myself - and need a bucket of cold water in my face to remind myself that I am a longgggggggggggg way from the master's level.

                        As his biography says, he did start to exhibit his models in 1932. There were still 4 more years to the birth of my late grandmother... no further comments by my part Bow [bow]
