Help! I recycled my Skipjack instructions

Well, this is the one area that I can actually supply some expertise. My job with the US Navy deals directly with nuclear reactors. The reactor vessel itself can be painted a stainless steel, the large piping (coolant loops) associated with reactor is a glossy white, the smaller piping is an aluminum color, the steam generators are white uppers with steel lower sections, the pressurizer is the same, the main coolant pumps are stainless, the ladders and decking are stainless, the inner hull, structural support and bulkheads are white. Individual valves are stainlees steel.

 

My solution was to just glue the reactor cover in place.  ;) Mark

 

Yeah, that's what I decided about 2 seconds after posting.  I don't think I am going to bother with all the hastle of getting the interior fitted and painted.

The instructions call out white for the reactor space but as RedCorvette mentioned the exact color is unknown, except by a very few people. However, looking at pics of the USS San Francisco, the interior color could be 'sea-foam'. I think the armour builders use it on the interiors of IFVs.

Since the reactor design is ficticious, you could probably paint it anyway you want.  Maybe some various shades of gray with touches of color for the piping.

Ill dig around my stash, see if I can scan the instructions and email/post. But ditto the above poster, you really dont need the instructions. The above link gives you a build log which covers couple problems wiuth the kit.

I have a set of instructions for the Revell Skipjack.  To be honest with you it is a pretty straight forward, intuative build.  Eighteen pieces in all, excluding the stand.  I didn't use them when I built the sub.  If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them here.  Save yourself the postage.  Also, I don't know if its important to you or not, but when I built mine I moved the sail forward by 1/4 inch.  I read a review before the build and that was the recommedation from the reviewer.  I must say that it does give the sub a nice profile.
