Posted by dosto on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 3:11 PM

Cool [8D]Hello people!

I am new to the hobby, and I would like to build a historic heller ship.

for painting can I do the job with brush or do I need air brush?

Can I improve the model , if yes how?

Do you have a sugestion for a book about ship modeling

Any advice will be very appreciate.

many thanks

To start with you can always paint your model with a brush. An airbrush is not necessary, just nice. The right painting techniques with a brush will give satisfactory to excellent results with enough patience.

As to improving your ship model, first it would be helpful to know what model you are going to do. Is it a sailing ship or a steel ship? There are people on this board and elsewhere with the knowledge to help you, just try to be a bit more specific. WS

Now that you have settled on specific ships one thing I would suggest is to use the search feature found at the bottom of the page in this forum. Just enter the name of the ship and you will find hundreds of entries concerning it within these forums. Start there and see if you find enough to get you going. WS

I recently bought a book for building model ships. it's called Building First Rate Model Ships, by Ben Lankford. It's got lots of good info for model ship building in general.
