Building CMK interiors for VIIC advice
Posted by Wilbur Wright on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 6:23 PM

Has anyone that is regularly on this board built these kits, and could offer any fit advice to avoid problems? And also any tips on the hull cutting.

I'm doing the torpedo section and fit (of building the kit) is far from perfect...cieling section to back wall etc.

The detail is stunning however . I've read the old threads. BTW

Thanks

Since no one else is going to answers, I guess it's up to me.
I've got all four compartments. The excess (flash) that needs sanded is pretty obvious. If you're not sure, DON'T.
The big this is "test fit", before you glue.
When you first lay the parts out, they may not appear to match up. But they will.
With the hull side and deck held between the two bulkheads everything should stay in place. If there's any flash, it'll be obvious.
The only flash, I remember, is on the end of the deck and hull side.
The hardest part on, any of the kits, are the push rods on the engine (small pieces of cut wire), in the Engine Compartment kit.
Lastly. If you plan to use the YMW Hull Tops, you'll have to sand the bulkhead edges flush with the top of the compartment. AND, sand/grind a truck load of resin from the inside of the hull tops. For the torpedo room, you'll need to, CAREFULLY, cut away the torpedo loading trunk from the hull top, so the loading trunk on the compartment can stick through.
Fitting the hull tops is tedious and time consuming, but IMHO, well worth it.
I'm still waiting for the "Forward Battery/Officer Quarters" and the "Motor/Torpedo Room" kits.
If you have any other questions, let me know. These are pretty straight forward kits and should present few problems.

Thanks Mike, I'm not using the YMW pressure hull.

I have built the torpedo room, and cut out that section of the Revell hull and it does seem to fit perfectly. The resin cieling  from CMK was warped and thin, hence the poor fit and struggle to get the ceiling to the back wall of the torpedo room and the aft door section all square to each other.

The little saw from CMK works well, along side my x-acto miter saws.

I will be on this kit for several months, so may ask as I go along.

Thanks again

I'm glad to help. If you need anything else, drop me an email.
The model is still under construction, so the compartment aren't glued in, yet. I csn still take any photos you might want.
The only detail ,I added, was to the torpedo room. Bunk chains and more torpedos. WEM has really nice G7e s.
