Favorite ship reference or just plain reading book

I have too many that I consider favorites...since I work on ship models 95% of the time...these are the ones I reference the most...I have probably 150 or so ship titles (over 500 aircraft and about 150 armor)

Alot of these books are long out of print, some are quite expensive in the collector's world from what I've heard...I just saw Volume 1 of the Luftwaffe Aircraft Painter's Guide go for $250 on Hyperscale...sheesh, I have all 3 volumes...maybe I should cash out, huh? I know the Raven and Roberts boos are now worth a mint...

PS: I'm always willing to help out someone doing research. If there's something here you need info from, don't hesitate to ask...same holds true for aircraft and armor subjects.

Any of the 'Anatomy of the Ship' series are good references, and for a good read I still pick up and re-read 'Sharks & Little Fish' by Wolfgang Ott from time to time.
Also an old sailing ship saga called 'Voyage'.

Agree 100% with his evaluation of Roscoes books - The hard back versions are really hard to find, but the pictures are worth it - In paperback they came out as Pig Boats and Tin Cans - they are hard to find too

Both of Roscoe's books are still available through the United States Naval Institutue Press or by ordering through one of the major chains. I checked Borders website and they can order them.

It's not a reference, but a good read: "Red Storm Rising", by Tom Clancy.

Or if you're looking for the real thing, read "Carrier" also by Clancy. An absolutely
fascinating look inside.

I just added 2 AoTS books, Fuso and the Type XXI U-boat, to my collection, and a book on U-boat conning tower emblems, and a book called Warship Boneyards that I got from Borders.

As a good read I can recomend Stokers Submarine. I can't remember the authers, there are two, but the book is about the AE2 the first submarine to traverse the Dardenelles submerged against the current. The story continues on after the sub is sunk with the story of the crew in captivity and their subsequent return home at the end of the war. There are several good photos of the sub and crew.
As an adendum there has just been released a kit of the boat in 1/350 scale.
