where can you find good drawings plans or line drawings of Japanese cargo ships from WW2? the number of pics on google is pathetic and the pic quality poor nothing I could use to get scales correct. thanks everyone, J.M. |

I don't know what scale you want to work in but their are a number of these ships in 1/700 available. Hasegawa has passenger/freight ship Hikawa Maru in several different iterations, Aoshima has Passenger ships Kasuga, Nitta and Yawata Maru ,Skywave has the Kimikawa and Kamikawa Marus as seaplane tenders but they both contain the parts for the freighters they were originally, there is also the seaplane tender Notoro, the tankers Erimo and Shiretoko, Fujimi has the tankers Kyokuto, Nippon Maru, Tatekawa Maru, Toa Maru and Toho Maru. There were also some resin kits of merchant vessels as well. They were set up as armed auxillaries or troop ships but were easily converted to strictly merchant vessels from the materials provided. Some may no longer be available from the manufacturers but they show up on ebay all the time. Some possibilities to look for would be from Wave-Line which made Rio de Janeiro Maru, special supply ship Irako and Kashino, Aikoku Maru, Hokoko Maru, Noshiro Maru, Sagara Maru and Noto Maru (an assortment of passenger freight vessels and other cargo ships) among others. Kobo-Hiryu makes the tanker Sunosaki also. If nothing else you may be able to use these ships as starting points for larger scale ships. WS
