USS Whitesides...
Posted by raider83 on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 9:00 PM
My grandfather served on this ship in WWII.  I think it was an Andromeda class attack cargo ship.  Are there any models of these ships out there, and does anyone have any more info on this ship? TIA

I read that USS Whiteside was present in Tokyo Bay during the surrender ceremonies. No AKAs were lost due to enemy action either despite aerial attack and torpedoing. Pretty tough ships.

You might want to look at the HP Models offering of the later-war AKAs (Arneb AKA-56 & Capricornus AKA-57).  They will be 1:700 scale resin/no brass.

Thanks a lot for all who responded.  If I ever do decide to build it, I will probably have to get it from hp models, but it looks pretty good. Thanks again
