I remember that broadcast on Christmas Eve '68 like it was yesterday! It saved '68. I remember following every minute of the mission. Their Christmas eve message was profound and moving. I even had the Revell model of the Saturn V that I had built earlier that year. Wish I still had that one!

As a side note, I've got 35mm slides that I shot of the Apollo 11 moon walk that I shot off the TV. I'm glad I grew up in the heyday of the space program.

Jim 'Wash Out' Pfaffenbach: Alpha Velveeta Knuckle Underwear, you are cleared for take-off. When you hit that nuclear weapons plant... drop a bomb for me! Lt. Commander Block: Uh, Sphincter Mucus Niner Ringworm, roger!

Hi Guys,

Remember that 40 years ago this week Apollo 8 left Earth bound for the moon, and those iconic photos of Earth rise were taken.

To paraphrase the Apollo 8 crew:

We left to explore the moon But we discovered the Earth
