Hello,
I'm a new/returning modeler after many too many years away from something I loved as a kid. I decided to jump back in to create a space program series of models to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 next month, and I'm loving this modeling magazine and now I find this forum to help with some questions. I'm looking forward to making some new friends here.....
I started with an X-15A-2 kit that I finished, and I have the Mercury 1:12 kit, as well as a Mercury Atlas, a Gemini, an Apollo CSM nearly finished, a First Lunar Landing LM kit, an Apollo Lunar Spacecraft kit nearing completion, and currently two 1:96 Saturn V kits. I also found the paper models of the Launch/Umbilical Tower and the Crawler to 1:96-or-1:100 scale, and I see that although these would be a challenge to construct, I am considering doing these paper models and then trying to create the tower and crawler from scratch as very "long-term" projects. Maybe I'm crazy here, but I'd like to have a fairly accurate LUT/Crawler sitting beside and under one of my Saturn V's. We'll see about that.
For now, though, I'm really having great fun creating things I had as a kid as Apollo 11 happened when I was just 14. I'm trying to put more-and-more detail into each model to add as much realism as I can into my work. And I see the examples in FSM and I wonder, "How DO they do such extreme fine-scale work?" I want to try and come close to these abilities someday. For now, though, as I say I'm just in it for the fun and enjoying every minute of it.
But I am wondering if anyone has ever tried to build a home-made paint booth? I'm just now trying airbrushing but I see a real need for a booth. If anyone has such plans or ANY suggestions, please let me know, and thanks for just being here for guys like me. I know I'll find lots of inspiration here and in the pages of FSM magazine.
Sincerely
Bob Moody
