What about a 'Shuttle / What if' Group Build..?
Posted by djmodels1999 on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 1:03 PM
Just thinking that it would be interesting to start a group build with 'Shuttles' as the focal point.. Could be the original proposals/ideas that led to the real Orbiter (including the HL-10 and similar type of vehicles), the Shuttle itself, Buran, but also future stuff as sometimes seen in specialised press (Orient Express, Sanger, for instance..)... I'd have to be 'possible', not SF (Space Odissey's Orion or things like that..).

Start sometimes around April/May (plenty of time to research!)..?

What 'd'ya think..?

I think it's a great idea!
My father was a technical illustrator for Aerojet General Propulsion Systems from 1961 thru 1992, so I may just be able to come up with a few interesting ideas about this build. Count me in.

If I can get my computer to recognize my scanner, I'll post a few of the interesting ones.

Stay tuned!

I hope that a group build in space would be good. Good luck to those who start one.

Eric, people just chose a theme and build models that are related to it, exchanging tips, info and notes. Some Group Build are about the same exact kit (I think the future Motorbike Group Build will), others allow for any kit, any scale provided it fits into the theme (like the future Sherman family Group Build). There's a start date and a deadline, but it's not really important to stick to the dates...

Usually, someone 'test the water' with a message like this one, and see who's interested. I'm not sure this one will ever 'lift off', but it was worth a try.

Well, I've got a Monogram 1/72 Stack and the tile decal set that I am itching to build... but I feel that I've got to polish up on my building skills before I do that. I haven't built plastic in about 6 years! I want this one to be nice.

Bernse, looks like the 'demand' is not right there yet, so do not worry, it's not going to start right away! ;-)

Id be interested in a shuttle build. A piggy backed shuttle would fit nicely with the other NASA models Ive done.

Sounds good, plenty of time to gather support and do any research.

Hey Bernse, Zokissima is looking for the exact kit you have. If you can tell us where you got the 1/72 Shuttle on Stack, I know it would make someone veeerrrryyy happy!

I've been going through lots of drawings, but can't find any that relate to the original Shuttle design. Dang!

count me in

gives me an excuse to build some of my older kits.

start date in July sounds good - and may be a 6-month build time might be better with all the group builds goning on.

OK, we can go for that, Luke. MojoDoctor, I have somewhere at home some drawings/data on a project called 'Jarvis' I think, that was to use the ET and Boosters, without the Shuttle itself... But it might just be a case of getting a Space Shuttle kit and use your imagination...
