For battle damage, suggest building some TIE fighters first and have them shoot at the MF, er, Millenium Falcan.

Battle Damage

Battle damage has to be planned well before the actual assembly begins. In space (scifi) the weapons used tend to melt as they penetrate the ships skin. Explosions still rip and tear! Find some good images from Star Trek of the Enterprise being attacked.

You do realize that this is the "Space" section, not the one assigned for "Science Fiction"?

Star Wars is great fun but infamous among those who of us actually slugged through Aerospace Engineering (or related disciplines). It is a fantasy, as phony as a Harry Potter spell,

Even when you're dealing with mere orbital velocities, the energies involved are so powerful that the spacecraft may as well be made of wet toilet paper. In the real world, you don't have "battle damage"; you have a cloud of debris.

So forget "realistic", ignore "plausible", and aim for "whatever looks good".

Occasional factual, grammatical, or spelling variations are inherent to this thesis and should not be considered as defects, as they enhance the individuality and character of this document.

I agree with TomZ2. In many forums I have seen a lot of emphasis being put on methods to make the battle damage on a space fighter or craft look realistic. In the end it is a science fiction subject and as such do not have a realistic base or "example" I am busy with a MKII Colonial Viper from the Battlestar Galactica TV series, and I have decided to honor the tv show and looks of the vipers (Including battle damage) as depicted in the TV show.
