1/72 Monogram Shuttle Enterprise
Posted by sbemo13 on Sunday, August 25, 2013 11:53 AM

I lived at Edwards AFB when this aircraft was tested off a 747. I had to change the engines and get rid of all the ribs on them. I used the kits decals with mixed results. The pitot tube is made from aluminum tube. I used TONS of Tamiya white primer on this. I added white test stripes on tires. My mother worked at NASA during this time. This model was dedicated to her. The Gnat is in picture just to show scale size of the shuttle.

sbemo13, that is a sweet Shuttle!  I built one (many years ago) and she is a big kit!  You did a great job on the detailing of the test bird!  Thanks for sharing!

Great build!  I have a number of photos of Enterprise sitting on its shuttle 747, so I want to build one of the new kits of the combo package.

I love it. has the look of the Enterprise. I've got the revell 1/72 kit to build myself, but i keep putting it to the bottom of the pile.

Imagine a 1/72 747 to sit it on?!?!?

Well done. Good job on your build. Makes me sentimental....I miss the shuttles and our space program.

Love that Tamiya primer! The vehicle looks great and you did a superb job with the finish. I like the Gnat used for scale. It really brings it to life when one can see the size comparison. Excellent craftsmanship!

I don't follow the space model category like I should because I'm a big fan, but is there a "newer" kit that includes a 747 with a shuttle?

There is a fairly recent Revell kit. I don't have the kit yet, and have not seen it reviewed, but I am usually satisfied with Revell kits.

I have the Monogram 1/72nd Shuttle with the full stack...EFT and SRBs sitting in the stash.  Bought it as a present to myself when I certified as a Shuttle Mission Controller for DoD payloads...LONG time ago...

Yes, Revell has a set with both.  I have ordered one, but have not got it yet.

Great job on that shuttle!
