Space Shuttle Challenger
Posted by CaptainJack on Friday, January 29, 2016 9:54 AM

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Challenger disaster, I've decided to take on a side project with my kids and build a 1/200 scale replica of the shuttle with the boosters. I purchased the Hasegawa 1/200 kit, but it only comes with decals for Columbia, Endeavour, and Discovery. Does anyone know where I can obtain decals for Challenger in the correct scale?

It seems like their focus is mainly car decals, but they do do custom work, but they want $25 to $50 for it. Not sure if I'm willing to pay that much just for a set of 1" by 2" decals. I guess I'll just keep looking. I know that I can print my own, but I haven't been able to find a printable version of that decal yet.

Well, just like that, my search is over. Found some old Nasa decal sheets on Ebay which include decals for Challenger. I'll post pics once my build is finished.

i can understand that, I know the guy that runs it, he does it himself, he would have to find the font, then create the artwork on the computer before printing. Custom decals are a lot of work. He did the decals on my monkeemobile, and the Marlboro decals on my 1/43 Mitsubishi Lancer, check them out in the auto forum here.

Oh yeah, I can understand that since it takes time to make it right. Not faulting the price, but I figured I could find some pre-made somewhere and I got them off Ebay so it worked out.

I remember very well being home sick that day and watching it on the news.  I look forward to seeing your build.

Jack, I did build that kit and it looks like it's only three decals in two sizes. I've had sucess with this old transfer type which I don't know if you can find anymore. A bit tedious but it did work putting Maxie on my P-51. Try an Art Supply store or online, not expensive as I remember. Good luck, show us pictures!

Captain Jack,

Try http://www.culttvmanshop.com

I've bought real space decals from them.

Good to deal with.

Sadly ;

 The Wife , Myself and the Children were there in the Cape . V.I.P. honors due to being regular supporters of the Arkansas Teacher's in Space effort . Plus , Had In-laws working on the Cape that set up a visit for us at that time .

 That and the sinking of the Andrea Doria Still go through my mind at night sometimes . I was on my uncle's Tuna Boat in the Doria thing and we took on forty survivors . I was still a kid .(Cabin-Boy ) is what my uncle said .

 In the Cape , all we could was watch and hear the horror . I have always had faith and would like to see space programs get the front seat again .  T.B.
