New project on the bench. 1/144 Saturn V will be displayed on it's side. Starting with Revells kit, I decided to make new F-1 Engines on the 3D printer. The kit engines required more work on the inside than I was willing to do, so a quick design in Catia, and 6 hours later, I had my first Engine. Lots of cleanup to do, but it's much simpler than filling and sanding the kit parts. (I hope)
Cheers

What printer are you using, a Formlabs?
I have a printerbot Play. Unfortunately, I can't get the detail I want with it, so I ordered a set from Shapeways.
Thanks
Giddy up! This will be awesome. Watching...
Max is here watching! Cool kit and even at 1/144 this kit gets big. My wall display is about 54 inches long in the stage separated length. Have fun!

Hmm, I now see that Photobucket is holding my pictures hostage under the Saturn 5 Moon Machine post below but I just re-posted them with far superior ImageShack.
OK. Quick mock up tonight, and a question.
Should I or shouldn't I place the Earth and Moon on the display?
Personally, I think the Earth and Moon would add nicely to the display.

I agree with Don.
OK. Here's my plan. Base edge will be stained Cheery. Top will be Black with white speckles to represent stars. Earth and Moon will be placed on there somewhere.
My parts from Shapeways should be in the next few days, and I can get on with this.
Have a great weekend my friends
Lancair IV OK. Quick mock up tonight, and a question. Should I or shouldn't I place the Earth and Moon on the display?
Hey, It was the mission, Earth to Moon! Go for it!
Look at the detail on these 1/144 F-1 Engines. These things are unbelievable... 1 coat of primer applied.
Wow! Those make mine look crude. I approve!
Lancair IVShould I or shouldn't I place the Earth and Moon on the display?
I'm not so sure . . . Even in this scale they'd be kinda big.

[Admiring Starbuck's space fighter] Cassiopeia: It's a perfect machine! Born to dance amongst the stars! Starbuck: Yeah, it's bumping into them that has me worried.
Looks like I need to do some cleanup.
Shiny!
Long weekend, but productive.
I stripped the F-1 Engines due to the lack of prep on my part on the outside. The Base is complete and tomorrow I will attach the Patches.
Have a great week
F-1 Engines taking shape
Rob, the engines and stand look stunning. I love the different shades of metal on those engines. Great work as usual.
F-1 Engines are complete. Thrust Structing coming along slowly.
Gorgeous.
Thrust Structure progress.
It looks cool... Nice paintwork.
Thrust Structure is Complete
Just checking on you and your project. Everything is looking excellent!
Great layout with the mission patches. My brother solved the space problem of such a long display by mounting the stages in a plexiglass display case with the display base on the back instead of the bottom, then hanging it on the wall. Are you planning the same thing?
it was an impressive sight seeing the Saturn V layed out like this at the Kennedy Space Center, and staring into the throats of those engines. You can believe it that, according to the guide, the radiated heat from the engines could light your clothes on fire from a quarter of a mile away.
