lookin for nostalgia
Posted by zokissima on Friday, April 2, 2004 11:20 AM
One of the first kits I ever built was a space shuttle kit with a full cargo bay, a launch platform, two solid rocket boosters, and the big red fuel tank.
Can't remember which manufacturer made it. All told, the kit was about 1.5 feet in height (around there somewhere) when fully built. It's gone missing over the years somewhere.
Anyone have any ideas where I might still find one, or even what I'm talking about? Smile [:)]
Thanks!

I believe your talking about the 1/72 Revell kit put out around 1986 and re-issued for a short time in early 2000 or 2001. Its great if you need a large scale display. Mine is in my office on the credenza and I use it in my Space Shuttle Meetings with NASA and USA. The details are not there as one might expect from this scale, but I have scratched built most of the missing details including opening up the main hatch and creating the mid-deck. Some are still around...you just have to look. Cost is about $50.00.
Good Luck in your hunt.

Thanks NASAFAN, I'm glad that someone out there knew of it. I hope I manage to find one somewhere. I'm not much of a modeler for space/sci-fi, so I'm lost as to where to begin looking. Anyone have any ideas?

I looked around a little. Actually, I believe it's the Revell CHallenger with Booster rockets. The 1/72 space shuttle I saw on the net didn't mention anything about the boosters and launchpad. I don't know whether one was made in 1/72, because the Challenger one is in 1/144 scale. Anyone know...I'm desparate to find this kit...

Zokissima -
Maybe I'll take a picture of the box (I still have the kit box) It might help you with your search. It's a big stinkin' box, its not hard to miss.

haha, I just won a bid on e-bay, and hopefully soon, my kit will be on the way. Now, it just remains to be seen whether or not I got the right thing Smile [:)]. Whatever, the price was actually quite low, so it won't be a big deal if it isn't the right thing.
I would actually appreciate the pic NASAFAN. Thanks for all the help!

haha, yep thats the one. Thanks NASAFAN!
I can't WAIT to get this damn kit. I paid right away to the guy, but I've not heard anything yet, so I don't know how these things go.
By the way, those plans for detailing would be great!

Zokissima,
Wink [;)] Check the fit of the ET halves. Mine had a warping issue Disapprove [V] and gave me a little challenge with fit as well as trying to keep the texture about right. I see that Revell is still replacing bad parts but YOU have to pay! Angry [:(!] Outlandish I say.
