Final Hubble Repair Mission , Atlantis (STS-125) Escale 1/179
Posted by Adrian Urrejola on Sunday, August 18, 2019 2:14 AM

Hello, I am very excited to start this project.

I've always been a fan of space and I've always dreamed of having a kit like this.

For this project I have chosen a kit for children in 1/179 scale. Different from those known. And I did it because of the size that is neither too big nor too small.

And especially a size like this you can add an incredible detail.

The scale model consists of 4 or 5 pieces that with a screwdriver fit.

My project is to make all its interior from the nose to the wings including the cargo bay, wings , machine room and telescope in scratch.

That is why you can add a lot of detail.

Because I want to honor the shuttle and telescope.

The first thing is to cut the plastic and I will be showing you the main steps.

Here I attach a picture of the kit.

Any questions or suggestions I am here to serve you.

Thanks.

First I show you  a kit that I bought with a low price.

Hello again

For the amount of project details I can name it as something ambitious project.

Luckily I have many reference photos and I share some of them.

It is necessary before beginning to have a clear idea of the objective.

(Of course, because of the relatively small scale, not all the details can be represented)

(and remember that it is very different what you want to do versus what you have obtained). OKAY.

Here an idea of what I want to represent in the nose and cockpit:

The cargo bay doors

The Docking Adapter

Here a scale model in 1/72

The Cargo Bay

The cargo bay of STS-125 for repair the Hubble

I want to make the representation of a part of the walls as shown in the drawing.

The Wings

The Camara

The ingene room

Of Course The Hubble Telescope,

It is not mounted on the shuttle, it will be with the Canadian arm in space.

Thanks You and any questions or suggestions welcome.

This looks like a very ambitious project, especially at this scale.  I will follow along with interest.

Thanks you Gary,

I appreciate your words. Yes, I personally love small scales and I really love the detail.

I started this project a while ago and a friend motivated me to share it on the web.

Thanks.

Hello

As a first step, cut the plastic in all the parts I need for the project.

Use the dremel to cut the plastic, because it is faster and more practical. Here the photos.

Thanks.

Hello!

I'm not so sure about that dremel here - it's more like hacking than cutting... I hope you can work with the parts you got as a result... Good luck with your build and have a nice day

Paweł

All comments and critique welcomed. Thanks for your honest opinions!

Hello Pawel

You are absolutely right in your comment.

And I apologize because with the emotion of uploading it to the web I could not explain more.

Realyl, of all the pieces that I cut, only the floor of the fuselage and the top of the fuselage will serve me. I will discard everything else including the top of the wings, the motors ... etc

...everything else will be in scratch.

The floor that shows everything badly cut, I will scratch a new floor and cover the oldest one.

The middle deck of the cockpit  I am going to put a metal so that it is exact and the skin of the fuselage I am going to try to imitate with the anti thermal cover like a shuttle orbiter.

Any comments or suggestions welcome!!!

Thanks

   Hello!!

I will start backwards, first I will show some Photos  (in progress) and in the next post I will show the steps.

Most of the pieces are not yet glued and still need to fit.

I attached some photos as the project goes.

Thanks!

Hi

Just playing like a child...

I am trying to put objects on the shutter orbiter  floor, just as evidence to see how it looks and go practicing to represent in the best way ( just prove)

oxygen and hydrogen tanks, electronic components, sensors ... etc ...

...a photo that shows how the main components are not yet glued.

Thanks.

Here the progress of the ‘representation´ of the main components of Payload Cargo.
There are still  details in each component that will be completed throughout the process.

Thanks.

I'm doing tests to photograph the model for last.

Some Photos

Include in a short way the steps to do ORUC ( Orbital Replacement Unit Carrier)

Some  details are not yet complete...

Some Details of SLIC ( Super Lightweight Tweight Interchangeable )

The main components are not yet glued

In the next stage place details of the payload and the WFC2 and camera

Adrian,

Your attention to detail is amazing!  Scratch-building at it's finest, and at such a small scale also.

Adrian,

I am back to watch this next stupendous project of yours.  Your work with metal at these tiny scales is marvelous and mind-boggling.

I made a Shuttle with my Grandson. It's just a model.  Yours will be a true replica.  Thanks for including us in your "STS-125" .
