Mercury Atlas kit
Posted by Don Stauffer on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 8:59 AM

I see a new(?) kit advertised by a company called Atlantis.  It is a Mercury and Atlas on a launch pad.  The launch pad looks a lot like an old kit from the sixties of a plain Atlas on a pad, by either Revell or Monogram.  Is this new kit a repop of that old kit plus the Mercury capsule?

I'm guessing the kit you are referencing is the "Everything is Go" kit? I just picked one up with the 40% off hobby lobby coupon about a week ago. As far as I can tell, Atlantis aqcuired a bunch of the old revell/Monogram molds and are repopping some of the older kits from the 50's and 60's. Definitely not a new tool kit. Looks like it will build into a pretty neat kit when finished!

When Revellogram failed a couple years ago in the collapse of Hobbico, the new German Revell did not want all of the assets of the old companies. Revell bought only the newest molds they felt were most economically viable. Atlantis came along and bought up a lot of the 50s/60s and Aurora oldies that the new Revell did not want, likely saving these molds from the scrapper. Including the Mercury Atlas kit among many others.
