If you're talking about the reissued Monogram kits, they build up pretty nice but can be better. Tom Kladiva in the Czech Republic has a couple of items that may be right up your alley.

Instead of BMF to simulate the kapton, take a look at buying sheets of the foil used to wrap candies. If you're going to build real space models I heartily recommend this site.

If it's real space related, it's probably there.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
I bought the new rebox at HL, but I have not opened it yet. Even if it's and old poor kit it will be fun to make a lander scene out of it with some bare metal foil.

I bought up a bunch of the older issues from eBay mostly several years back. But I have yet to build one. In the box they look ok, but are certainly products of their era in regards to detail and such. I know that there is a company or two that sell update sets for these kits to correct details, as most of the kits are based off initial prototypes and not the various production block mission types.

Hey Rob!
promise not to laugh? LEGO has re-released their Lander set. At a Higher price too! Oh,Gotta add! I found a lander, In the Box, Unopened at a garage sale $ 3.00! It is the old Revell Kit with the Gold foil even. I started on the legs.
I am going to replace them with Aluminum shaped metal!
It's been forever since I last saw the lunar landing kits. Has anyone bought and built these reissues? I've seen them at Hobby Lobby, most of them I never bought back in the day since they were more pricey than I had the money for back in the 70s.
Are any of them worth a look this time? The only one I remember having is a 1/72 US Airfix (reissued Airfix lunar lander), but I know that is an entirely different one.
