I had obtained a kit from Sheri's Hot Rockets 5 years ago. Here I would like to show how I've been doing this build.
"Meters Mr. Towns, meters."
I would love to see this!
Unfortunately, I'm presently getting '403 forbidden errors' when trying to change my avatar or posting from my own files.
Pieces from New Ware.
Not all pieces will be used for this.
Three of the four resin fin shrouds were warped from the manufacturer.
I had tried using a tube of the same diameter as a mandrel and using a heat gun managed to remove some of the warping. However, the results didn't straighten them out entirely. I canned them and chose to build them from scratch.
Using the pattern from the kit I simply traced four of these on a single tube.
End result.
Using the same pattern, I made marks at the bottom and pinholes at the top of each shroud. Then using masking tape I connected them.
With the fin loosely attached.
Now using 1 mm. stringers I began gluing them down using CA.
Two of them.
All four glued to the main tube.
Now for the four segments going between the fin shrouds.
BTW, this is designed to fly.
It's a BIG bird - must be about 7'6" tall when complete? That's some serious work, for sure.
Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

I used epoxy clay to encapsulate the end of the eyebolt. A shock cord will be attached to this.
I've sanded the end of the engine tube to receive the engine retainer using JB Weld.
This is the two piece retainer.
One part epoxied to the cardboard tube.
