Delta II Launch Tower
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 8:08 AM
Hi all! I'm working on building a scratch model of a Delta II, and would like to also build a launch tower for it. Anybody have a decent source for drawings of the launch complex? Most of the pics I see are from launches, or all from the same angle, so I don't know what it looks like all around. Thanks for your help!

Getting drawings on this tower is not that easy. This is Boeing's towers not the Governments. The Freedom of Information Act might not apply. I've been in the tower for the Delta II and its kinda old. The (personnel) elevator was scarey to ride because it fit only 2 - 3 small people and the doors wouldn't open that easily. I'll ask my Boeing rep if they are available.

By the way, what are you using for designing the model? Did you come up with your own scale prints? I'm interested in how you are putting it together. Did you decide on a configuration? Which Delta II are you planning on building?

Regarding the rocket, I'm using the Delta II 7925-284 Mars Odyssey. I'm building it near-scale using model rocket tubes (bt-55 main, bt-5 boosters) and using graphics I located on the web at www.lansbergen.net. I'm nearly finished with the rocket, and hope to post a pic soon.

Thanks for the info on the launch tower. At this point, I'm guessing that I'll either have to forego it, or sorta "make it up". I'm sure you fine scaler's are shuddering at the thought!
