Depending on how much you want to spend, for about $300 US you can get a Kodak Easy share with 5MP resolution that does a good macro... if you look through the "Naval Aviation Group Build topic and look for posts and pics by Saltydog, I believe this is the exact camera he used. his always came out good!
I really recommend using 5MP to pick up the detail of a miniature, 3MP is ok if that's your budget, but 5 or better is ideal. (8MP will cost you a mint, at about $1000 for an 8MP camera)
Just look for macro, a must have, megapixel is next, with 5 being your taget. Now, I assume you won't be JUST using this for models so zoom would be next... the more optical zoom the better. Digital zoon just starts getting the pics grainy and is not worth using... (except on some of the 8MP cameras, doesn't seem to affect them as bad) being you already know something of photography all the things you look for in a 35MM would be similar for the digital in everyday non-modelling use.. f-stop range, shutter speed etc...
P.S.
just looked on Best Buy's web site and there is a range of about $275 to $500 for a 5MP camera... take a look and compare and if you have any questions be sure to ask! Also be sure to look for brands known in the 35mm world... Sony being the exception but even then I would be careful about which Sony you picked, they range from very good to just down right bad...
You might want to pic up some extra memory of the appropriate type for the camera you pick... at 5MP a 32MB stick will only net you about 17 pics give or take... I recommend 128 or above MB, running anywhere from $40.00 to $70 or so for a 128 stick, which will get you about 35 to 50 pics or so at 5MP. if you plan on using it for everyday shots an extra battery would also be good... you never know when you want that one good shot and your battery is about dead!
