Best Real Space subject award! Seattle Spring Show!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 24, 2005 2:09 PM
Greetings all,

I thought I would make mention that my studio is sponsoring a special award for the best Real Space subject at the Seattle Spring Model Show, being held on April 16, 2005.

The award is the Astronauts Memorial Award and is dedicated to the crews of Apollo 1, STS-51L Challenger and STS-107 Columbia. The award given will be a special version of my studios "One Giant Leap" Lunar footprint plaque. An example of the plaque can be seen on my website in the Products section. The plaques text layout will be changed to reflect the award and model show at which it was given.

The qualifications will be as follows...

- Model/Diorama must be of or feature a non-fiction spacecraft, Manned or Unmanned. No fictional or speculative subjects.

- Model/Diorama must represent a spacecraft that has, or is currently seeing use in the American Space Program.

- Model/Diorama must depict a spacecraft designed for orbital or space travel. High altitude or non-orbital craft (X-15, Space Ship One, etc) do not qualify. (sorry guys... no X-Prize stuff.)

I am hoping that this award will generate some interest in space modeling. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

I love your real space products. I have used your stuff and it is great. As a former member of the Seattle club, I know there is many builders of real space items there and the quality is great! Looking forward to seeing the recipient of your plaque!

Unfortunately, I withdrew the sponsorship of the space award so there will not be any award. The Seattle Club failed to actually list the award on the contest announcements, even after numerous reminders.
Eventually I emailed them and withdrew the award simply because at that time there was less than a month before the contest and there was no time for anyone to build anything for this specific award.
To be honest, I was not interested in handing over a $250 award plaque for a special category that no one was even aware of.

Perhaps next year I will try to sponsor the award again.

I am sorry to hear that. I am surprised that Seattle did not acknowledge your award or sponsorship. They always run a smooth show every year. How about at the IPMS Nationals??
