Apollo 11
Posted by jgaertner73 on Friday, June 20, 2003 8:43 AM
I am new to the modeling world and have recently visited the Kennedy Space Center. It was there that I purchased all the mission patches (actually they were in the form of commerative pins) to the Apollo program in a frame. I like ti very much and got home to proudly display it when I thought Hey, how about I model a Saturn V, LM and maybe CM, all from Apollo 11 and create a nice display. So, heres the thing Who the heck makes these things in similar scale???

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you can not build the whole series of vehicles at the same scale, other than getting Revell's (1/100?) or Airfix's Saturn V (1/144) that come with CSM and (folded in) LM... But they are rather small, of course those CSM and LM... However both the CSM and LM are available at larger scales.

Jonathan,

The largest scale of the full Saturn V stack that I've seen is Revell's 1/96 beast. Can't attest for the quality, however, it is big. As for getting the other parts, Revell also made a separate Columbia / Eagle kit that was also 1/96 scale, but I think it is out of production. You may be able to find them on ebay, though.

Jonathan:

Apogee rockets has a 1/70 scale Saturn V with wonderful detailing. Although it is a flying rocket (not plastic) it is a wonderful kit that stands over five feet tall. Check out apogee.com.
