The latest IPMS Journal has a nice build up of this kit using the Space Model Systems Inc. decals.  He also mounted in laying down like the current display versions at Kennedy and Huntville.

Some modelers advocate painting up the vehicle in gloss colors, applying the decals so that they adhere to the smooth surface, maybe with a tiny bit of Micro-set, and then clear-coating with a semi-matte top layer to seal the decals and give the bird a "scale"-looking surface. Different parts of the Saturn V actually have slightly different shades of black and white, and this effect is visible in a number of photos on apolloarchive.com, in the image archive. The black on the S-IC, for example, is a different shade than the black on the S-II aft interstage. You get to see those things when you dig deep. Happy Holidays.

You can check with other folks, but (tooting own horn) I believe you won't find a better set of replacement 1/96 Saturn V markings than the ones we offer through Space Model Systems Inc. Go to

http://www.spacemodelsystems.com

and click on the decals page. These are professionally printed by Microscale for us.

I actually have those decals scanned into my computer and cleaned up, ready for printing onto decal paper.  You can have the file if you wish.  Just send me your email address.

decals for 1/96 saturn V

I'm building the Revell 1/96 Saturn V.  The markings on it are terrible.  Also the flat pieces that have to be rolled into some of the parts for the stages are not same color and are translucent looking.  The only solution I can think of is to paint them, and thus painting over the crappy markings on them.  What i'm looking for is decals to replace the pre printed flags and USA on the sides.  What are some of the solutions some of you other folks come up with.  I agree with an earlier post I read where the poster commented that it was "labor intensive", boy is that the truth.  Every part needs work.  Any suggestions you can throw my way would be appriciated.
