Saturn V Article in April Issue

Frankly, I was disappointed in that article. Sure, it was nice to see the kit back in action, but I had really hoped for more. AFAIC there was still a lot of detail that could have been done that apparently was not.

Perhaps I have my sights set too high, however I plan on detailing the hell out of my kit(s). I figure each section will be a project in and of itself. Gathering the data will be interesting (nobody seems to care about the ring that separated S1 from S2 - there's a ton of detail that can go into that. But where to find how the navigation gear was laid out and what it looked like installed? I'd sure like to see those pictures...).

I already know I'll be using the RSM and NW mods. But there is much, MUCH more that can be done to this kit.

Does anyone have a line on other articles on a build of this kit? I'd be interested in seeing them...

 The actual Saturn V had about 1 million parts Due to all the information that is available you can model many of them. There are two web sites on the web decoted to the Saturn V by Revell and scratchbuilding many of the details. the first is Tracy Kornfeld's Scratchbuilding the Saturn V and the other is Rick Sternbach's Saturn V clinic. Both have lots of information and will provide links to other sources.

Also due to lots of interest due to the article New Ware is now offering free decals until the end of July when you buy the detail set.

 

I am not a space aficionado, but I read the entire article and was impressed enough to consider buying that kit someday, as it gave a good overview of what you can turn the basic model into with the intelligent use of aftermarket parts and decals.

Talking about aftermarket kits, have a look at that and imagine how it could look like on a desk!

Ross Tierney spent several years developing the launch complex kit which makes extensive use of photoetched brass. It finally became available just a few months ago in limited quantities. It is extremely expensive due to high cost of engineering and materials.

The launch complex would be a perfect pedestal for a highly detailed Saturn.
