Vostok

I usuall do aircraft models, but a few years back I saw a re-release of the 1/24 Vostok by Revell. It brought back a flood of memories of building that kit as a kid, and I had to have it. I have some great detail photos of a Russian exhibit, and this craft will require major work to achieve a more realistic appearance. I am not technically adept at scratchbuilding. Not being familiar with aftermarket detail set manufacturers for space, I would like to find out if one exists for this kit. Anyone know of a good source ? Thanks for your help, Pix.

A long shot for you, a russian firm by the name of STC Start (possibly STS Start) makes a number of kits that may help, Ebay or www.rus-sell.com is where I've found them. I have ordered an ISS kit, but I haven't seen it yet, so I can't commect on the quality.

Thanks, Europa. There's nothing for that kit at the website, but I e-mailed him with an inquiry about the availability of a set. Thanks for the help ! Pix.

That kit brings back some sad memories for me. I received it as a Christmas gift in my early teens. Avid modeler that I was (and still am) my mother was very concerned about those glue fumes causing "brain damage". She made me put that kit together with ELMER'S GLUE!!

You can imagine just how well it held together. May it rest in pieces. . . .

Someday I'm gonna get that kit and build it right!

paulnchamp - the kit needs a lot of work. The "cockpit" is split in 2 pieces - they put the seam right down the center of the control panel ! ! ! All the outer plumbing detail is soft & shallow. I MAY have it built for the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight !

There was also a kit issued by a East German (Plastikart, I think) company a good few years ago. It was reissued in the UK by Nu-Be about 10 years ago. It crude but there are areas where it is more accurate than that issued by Revell. Still got one to make in my attic.
