So is Manned vs Un-manned look like the next step instead of an arbitrary cutoff date?

Well, I like to break it down like that for US:

1. Mercury / Gemini era

2. Apollo era

3. Space shuttle / International Space Station era

4. What's next!

For russian, the technology havent changed alot over the years so.

 

I also like the idea of manned versus unmanned space vehicle.  Specially if you want to integrate satellites, telescopes and other deep space exploration robotised spacecraft.

If so, sorting them by country and then by manned or unmanned would the way to go IMHO.

I just visited your web site and I must say it is coming along nicely.  It's in my favorites now.

After sneaking at it, I would definitely sort them by country and maybe an International section and then manned and unmanned subcategories for each country.  All your other sections like aircraft are sorted by country so it would be normal to go that way for the space section.

And it is like a consensus among space freak to identify space vehicles as manned or unmanned.  It makes a big difference in the engineering of the vehicle and it is very easy to understand for anyone who is searching a particular kit.  Two questions: who made it and was it manned or not?  Bingo.

I'm liking the idea of manned vs unmanned too.  Then by era for the next division.  Now for looking up each one and figuring out where it goes.  Thanks for signing the guestbook, Yann.  You're the first to take the time. 

Edit-What are the Buran and Zond classed as? They never went manned but were designed for it.

That's a good question!  I would put it in the manned section cause it was designed for that purpose.  If you look at the spacecraft, there is no doubt about it.

Don't worry about being late.  I work on my site when I can. I've been tutoring a grad student and that takes a lot of time. Although, since I work on the site when stressed, I'll probably be really working on it.

 I figured that, but wasn't sure.    I started reworking my space section.  I'll drop you a line when I get finished and you can see what you think.  Feel free to correct me if somethings off.  I'd welcome it.  Space isn't my strong suit.  I watch the space program (I am a Trekkie and all), but a lot of it was before my time.  I was still in diapers when Challenger was destroyed, I think.  I have to look up a lot of stuff.

If you want to learn a bit about the american space program, Spacecraftfilms makes excellent archive documents.  A little pricey but if you can find a place where they rent it....

Those look interesting.  I might have to see if BSU has them or can interlibrary loan them for me. 

I don't know much about the subject but I'll give you a bit of advice on the site it's self. From reading the thread it seems you are going to eventually have a pretty decent sized site, I would suggest going ahead and putting it somewhere besides Geocities. You only get 15 mb of space there and that can get ate up pretty quick if you put pictures in. One place that I use and have very good service for a few years now is http://100webspace.com/ they give 100mb for free as well as a lot of other features and you can't beat thier tech support.  An example of the difference in space, this is one of my sites that is on the free plan http://lumpkin911.org there are 3800 files in that one and still room to grow.  I can tell you from experience that a site can grow a lot more than you imagine it would. let me know if you need any other advice.

Thanks for pointing me to that site.  I've though about a bigger place but hadn't picked one.  If you'd recomend it, that'll work for me.  I'll have to feel out the new setup.  Figure out how it works.  I'll see how it works out.

If you have a HTML editor with FTP it is a breeze. Not sure how well they work otherwise.

Which I don't.  I like a "what you see" approach to building over scripting since its easier to keep the color coding straight.

Thats why I use Frontpage myself. Causes a few issues here and there but it is simple enough to use.

I thought about Frontpage but it's still about 50.00 even with my student discount through Ball State.  I don't get that kind of money to spend.  I'll have to start putting back for it.

if you can get it for $50 it would be well worth it if you are going to really build a site. Makes keeping up with it a lot easier as it grows. i would recommend the Frontpage for dummies book as well. Just read it and learned a whole bunch of stuff that makes the site stand out more and makes it easier in the background runnings of it.
