PS Atleast ur solar arrays are extended HEHE (unlike the ISS at the moment, cant retract its array. Something to do with a gromit?)

The black base comes with the Revell kit, the shuttle is also Revell....all in 144th scale. I had to secure the Revell black/earth base to a square of birch plywood, as the black base alone is not that sturdy. I also felt I had to add another piece of aluminum tube to support the shuttle. I had hoped not to but it really does support everything else as built.

The model is quite fragile and large..... I still don't know what I'm going to do with it. It may be safest to hang it on strong fishing line from the ceiling. It looks good floating that way as well (I tried that).

I also amped up the colors in the photos so you could see it a little better, so in real life the model is a bit more subdued as far as the brightness of the colors.!  I have yet to add the little black and white spots to the modules. Haven't figured that out yet. It was fun to build..yet the painting was a real PIA. Next to My Tamiya CVN-65 USS Enterprise its got to be the biggest conversation piece of all my models.

good luck with the CVN-65 i am debating on when i am gonna start mine and if i should order the PE from gold medal models for it. it is a pretty big kit.

did you ever think of using acrylic dowels instead of the aluminum tubing the only reason i ask is cause the acrylic is see through even though you can see the dowel to me it would gove a better apperance .

A very nice build Wilbur. You're solar arrays look pretty straight compared to mine. I'm sure it will look fantastic hanging in your room. Great Job.
No matter where you go ....... there you are.

Thanks Yann................and kenny by all means get the GMM photo etched for your cvn-65....mine was built years ago and is the best model I own. The GMM set is $42 and the radar is a work of art......GMM also now have the elevator platforms for an extra $32. They did not have these when I built mine, but if you can afford them then get them

I know the Gold Medal Models stuff is not cheap but it makes a great deal of difference . I'm about to order the GMM set for the Revell 400th Queen Mary 2. That is my next big model.

Just a note for anyone that cares:........ the Large Solar Arrays are actually glued in place with Tenax 7R.............so that is why they are as straight as they could be. I did this on a jig to get the angles the same.......They are one with the Truss and not movable..............an acceptable tradoff for me to get it to look as best as I thought it could be.

There is also quite a bit of tension being distributed among the aluminum rods so I don't think acrylic rods would have worked............you know the aluminum is not going to snap!!!!!!
