gsr,

Thanks for your advice!  My sister is enjoying her build, but at times she is getting discouraged due to fitting issues.

Yes, but the decals are nice.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  The kit was first released before Columbia flew, and as you have noticed, there is room for improvement.  Aftermarket parts are available, but it's your call as to how much time and money you want to throw at it.  If you just want a decent out of the box Shuttle stack, then I recommend the 1/200 Hasegawa kit.  I believe that it only dates to the mid 80's.

Revell 1/144 Discovery kit

I took my younger sister (12 years old) to a LHS today and she showed an interest in building a model kit.  She's been launching model rockets for quite some time and it is natural that she pointed at Revell's 1/144 scale Discovery kit. It seems like a good kit.

Any pointers?  Thanks!
