Revell Reissue - German A4 (V2) Missile & trailer & launching pad

Now that the Professor mentions it, my memory is of ovesized figures too. No big deal - there are plenty of suitable 1/72 figures out there.

The thing to do is to by two kits - one to do as a period piece, OOB, working features (of which thre are many) and all, and one as the basis of a serious replica.

Certified Olde Phudd that I am, I remember buying that kit when it was originally released.  (According to Dr. Thomas Graham's fine book, Remembering Revell Model Kits, that was in 1960.)  I was too young then to give it a knowlegeable appraisal, but I have the impression that it has (for its age) a pretty good reputation among people who know more about this sort of thing than I do.  It did indeed have a removable fuselage half and internal detail.  Dr. Graham's book agrees that the scale was 1/69.  (That's mighty close to 1/72.)  If I remember correctly, the kit had one big oddity:  the crew figures that came with it were on a much larger scale than the missile, launcher, and trailer.  My memory could be playing me false again there, though; I haven't seen the kit in many years.

I bought it back in the 1970s, and I don't know about scale accuracy (though I've not read any negative comments) but it certainly looks the part. Buy with confidence. If you want a 1/72 A4, then Special Hobby used to do one - currently available as a piloted A4b:

MY memory is that the Revell kit dates from the late 1950s, but don't let that put you off. Revell were doing some really good (albeit in box scales) stuff at the time.

Don't know about accuracy but at 204 mm it must be something around 1/70 scale.  My 1/48 scale Mauve V-2 is about 295 mm long.  I didn't measure mine that accurately so 1/72 is certainly possible.

I just looked it up in Mat Irvine's book Creating Space.  It's 1/69 scale.  His book says it has a detailed interior with a removable half body.  Seems like it might be a good build.
