White Glue ?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, November 20, 2003 8:34 PM
Hi all,

I live in Australia and trying to find an equivilant to "white glue" that everyone refers to. I was wondering if it was the same as PVA wood glue or if it was something else ?

Thanks,

AJ.

Hey AJ, here is the website for Elmer's glue, the brand I like. http://www.elmers.com/index.asp Wink [;)]

I believe it's the same stuff... according to the elmer's MSDS's, elmer's is a PVAC glue, which to my recollection stands for polyvinyl acetate, which is also abbreviated PVA.

I use Elmer's "Glue-All". I'm sorry I should have said that before.

AJ;
Your are right the Aussie equivilant to "White Glue" is the PVA type of glue, they can either be a wood working glue (I usually use Selleys "Aquadhere"). Some of the craft stores also sell a PVA type glue, but tell you what brand or name it is.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Elmer's glue all for me too. Easy to use, cleans easy, and best of all it's cheap.

Not trying to be picky, but PVA is the abbreviation for polyvinyl alcohol. I think Borden refers to their Glue-All polyvinyl acetate brands as either PVAC or PVAc. That's what is currently posted in Borden's MSDS in the Hazardous Materials Information System database.

kaobotic, I bought my bottle of Krystal Kelar from my local Tesco for about £2.50 for 500ml.

Haven't tried it yet though.

Yes it isd vinyl or PVA poly Vinyl Acetate. It glues very well, but be concient that is a two way stuff, that is if you soaked it with water, once is dry, it will come back to it´s original state (white) and it will debond. It is good for paper, carton, wood, even plastic. When I do not want to have the two way effect I use Acrylic glue, it may look like white glue, the smell is different and the end result is an adherance to metal, wood, plastic, rayon, nylon, clear parts like canopies, and it will stay for ever. only have to be sure the surface is clean ( no grease). It may be more pasty like, but with a toothpick or any other special apliance you use, is easy to apply. Both glues are great depending the use you will give to the bond.
