My solution for non-handed Friulmodel tracks
Posted by Pvt Mutt on Thursday, March 4, 2010 12:37 PM

Theres been a pretty good discussion on one of the other sites about the non-handed tracks for the Tiger 1 and how they run in opposite directions because of the one link design used for both sides.  Somewhere along the line it turned into a non-handed for a lot of the tracks sets that Friul makes and how the trimmed off wires look bad because they show on the outside and not hidden on the inside like the handed track sets are.

Some guys said they just mud them over so the raw ends don't show but there are others that may not have their model finish that would call for mud on the tracks and they didn't like the looks of the raw wire ends.

I use nothing but Friuls on all my models and I only use the supplied wire on the very small link sets and if the raw ends show they are too small to notice anyway. All other sets I use sequin or lace pins instead of the soft wire.  If the track set is not handed and the pins on one side are exposed this is what I do.

I take my Dremel tool with a grind stone in the chuck and spin the the pin between my finger tips and grind down the pin head to kinda match the molded detail side of the links before I pin the links together.

If you look at the picture you can see a pin head that is not ground down just to the right of center.  You only have to grind down one side so it doesn't take that long and looks so much better than the raw wire.

There you have it just a little touch that adds so much for just a little effort.
